Emerging - The Lowry/Jacksons Lane

Exploring gender identity, representation and familial love, Emerging is the brand-new production from pioneering company Scarabeus Aerial Theatre, which had its world premiere at The Lowry, Salford, in October 2022; and was then performed at Jacksons Lane in February 2023.

Co-commissioned by The Lowry and the London International Mime Festival, this unique performance centres on the relationship between transgender son Naissa and his mother Daniela, as they journey together through a complex life changing process.

The inspiration for the costume design focusses around the concept of curves and round shapes, which come across subtly in the pattern cutting of each costume, and blend in nicely with the tools used by the aerial performers. The costumes had to be designed and constructed with movement and functionality in mind to allow for this very physical performance.
